Street Smarts Is Part of the Revive 285 Project Team

revive285-1  revive285-2

Street Smarts is part of a team that is addressing the Immediate Action Items for revive285 top end, a study that covers a wide range of treatments for the northern portion of I-285 corridor in the Atlanta area. Included in the study are highway design, ramp layout, signal timing, signage, safety issues and capacity issues.

Also due to the unusual nature of the project and the wide variety of solutions, ranging from a simple sign change to possible interchange redesign, the results were presented in a unique graphical 'booklet' form that allowed each solution to be viewed equally and have its full benefits described. This was done to ensure that a simple suggestion that might be very effective in improving conditions along the corridor was not lost among some of the larger, more complex solutions. In addition to this phase of the project, Street Smarts is also working on conceptual designs for the overall revive285 top end project. These concepts include managed lanes, operational improvements to the general purpose lanes, three system to system interchanges and several service interchanges. Additional concepts developed by the team include transit utilizing express buses or separated fixed guideway facilities.

Regional Study of Truck Movements
Around Atlanta

GDOT Truck Study

For a study researching truck travel and freight transportation in 13 metro Atlanta counties, Street Smarts was hired by GDOT to lead a team responsible for conducting a literature search of federal, state, regional, academic, and local data on truck travel and freight transport; collect and analyze data on local and regional truck travel trends using customized software for handheld computers; develop and evaluate potential strategies for streamlining truck travel in the region to improve mobility and air quality; and develop an implementation program for the recommended strategies.

The study area included the 13 counties in the metro Atlanta region, which are among the fastest growing in the nation. This was the first major regional study of truck travel in the Atlanta region in many years. Atlanta's critical role as the State's largest economic engine and its importance as a transportation hub for the southeastern U.S. highlight the importance of this study effort.

Northeast Georgia Medical Center
Traffic Impact Study

Northeast GA Medical Center

Street Smarts has undertaken a number of different traffic engineering and transportation planning related studies for the Northeast Georgia Medical Center, located in Gainesville, GA. One combined task involved a Traffic Impact Study for the Center's new master plan expansion, as well as their proposed development of a satellite site.

Street Smarts prepared the Traffic Impact Study for the proposed expansion of the Northeast Georgia Medical Center main campus and the development of medical and hospital support offices on the "Milliken Site".

The campus expansion added more than 630,000 square feet of hospital, medical office space and parking. Street Smarts conducted traffic impact analyses and performed signal warrant studies and circulation studies. In order to better facilitate new traffic and rerouted traffic, Street Smarts worked with hospital planners on better access management and parking management by reconfiguring driveways, turn lanes, parking lots, and parking deck access points.

Old Alabama Road Corridor Study
Fulton County Georgia

Street Smarts performed traffic analyses and detailed corridor study for an 8-mile stretch of roadway located in northern Fulton County, Georgia. Analyses included traffic operations for existing and future conditions, as well as for various proposed alternative improvements. Once improvements are complete, the roadway will be turned over to local jurisdictions - the Cities of Roswell and Johns Creek.

Atlanta West Parking Deck Alternative Selection and Traffic Assessment
Atlanta, Georgia

This multi-task project included providing recommendations to the City of Atlanta Department of Aviation (DOA) concerning ingress/egress options as the first assignment. Following that, a Traffic Impact Assessment Report was submitted to the DOA including an inventory of existing roadway and traffic conditions, forecasting traffic for years 2009 and 2015 under different conditions, and providing recommendations. The third assignment was to assess on-site traffic impacts and recommend specific geometric and traffic control improvement for the movement of site traffic.

Wheatfields Reserve Development
of Regional Impact
Gwinnett County, Georgia

Wheatfields Reserve

For this proposed 417-unit single-family residential development, Street Smarts prepared the traffic impact analysis, area of influence analysis, and air quality benchmark statement for the non-expedited review package submitted to the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority and Gwinnett County.
