Gwinnett Place CID Transportation Plan

Existing and Future Sidewalks

The Gwinnett Place Mall area is one of metro Atlanta's fastest growing activity centers. As a result, its main corridor now handles between 55,000 and 60,000 vehicles per day, a number that is predicted to increase with the population. The Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District (CID) retained Street Smarts to conduct a transportation study of this busy area.

Street Smarts performed a study to analyze existing transportation conditions and provide the CID with opportunities to reduce congestion and enhance the vitality of this activity center. We were responsible for developing a prioritized list of projects for future implementation by the CID, based on critical needs, costs, and the expressed priorities of the CID property owners and stakeholders.

In order to fully understand the needs of the area, Street Smarts actively engaged the community by conducting several public involvement sessions, distributing surveys and interviewing key stakeholders to gain input.

City of Suwanee Alternate Modes of Transportation

Street Smarts performed existing conditions analysis and documentation for this project. We interviewed various stakeholders to determine goals for the system, developed analysis tools to identify and prioritize potential projects and developed an implementation plan for proposed improvements.

Athens Transit Passenger Survey©

Athens Passenger Survey

A specially designed, customized Passenger Survey© was developed by Street Smarts/Data Smarts and installed on a handheld, pen-based computer utilizing the WinCE operating system.

The survey is being used by Athens Transit staff for the purpose of interviewing passengers to gather ridership information. The data collected will be used to show the demographics of the current ridership. Passengers are interviewed to determine origin, current route, purpose of trip, number of times per week the bus is used, destination, reason for riding the bus, etc. As with all Street Smarts/Data Smarts copyrighted software, logic checks were programmed into the software to prevent costly errors in data collection.

A supplementary on-board postcard sized mail-back quality of service questionnaire was also designed and developed for distribution to passengers riding the Athens Transit System, The Bus.

Atlanta Regional Commission Freight Mobility Plan

Street Smarts/Data Smarts performed truck driver interviews conducted for truck drivers traveling in and out of the Atlanta metropolitan area. These interviews gathered information regarding where they started their trip, where ended their trip, and what roads they used. The information gathered was used to identify alternative strategies for accommodating truck traffic on the roadways serving the Atlanta metropolitan area.

The interviews were conducted using handheld computers running a proprietary data collection application customized for this project. In addition, a printed map was used to allow truck drivers to highlight the route of their trip.

In addition to the data collection, senior staff members of Street Smarts/Data Smarts worked with the project team on analysis and recommendations for the Freight Mobility Plan.
