Street Smarts Meets the Challenge at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport

Survey at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport

Surveying at night on the busiest airport runways in the world is another feather in the cap for the Street Smarts survey crews. Responding to the need for design extensions of various taxiways running north to south and taxiway connections between the Central Passenger Terminal Complex (CPTC) to the south airfield complex, planimetric and topographic surveys were performed. A complete set of design documents for the Hartsfield-Jackson Development program and the City of Atlanta's Department of Aviation were also produced.

Not only did Street Smarts' SUE department and survey teams work in the dark to get the job done, they were also required to work within the airport's Security Identification Display Area (SIDA). Members of the team are all security credentialed to participate in field data gathering activities. Nighttime runway closures were also coordinated to perform the topographic surveys and sub-surface utility location. "There were obstacles to overcome with working that late shift, since our job is visual" said Dustan Hall of the Street Smarts Survey Department. "We had to stay alert and watch for traffic just like on the street. To allow the airport to continue work as usual, sometimes we had to move or wait."

City Of Atlanta Storm Water Inventory
With Unique Database Development

Storm Water Survey

As a part of the City of Atlanta's effort to eliminate sewer spills and restore the structural integrity of its sewer system, Street Smarts collected data required to inventory storm water structures in the South Fork Peachtree Creek area. Taking advantage of the in-house progamming staff and Data Smarts, a handheld computer application was developed to enhance the data collection process. Attribute data were collected quickly and accurately, then tied to the survey data.

Columbia Park Avondale MARTA Station ALTA/ACSM Land Title Survey

AvondaleMARTA01

As part of City of Decatur Housing Authority Livable Center Initiative (LCI), Street Smarts performed topographic and boundary surveys of the south parking lot of the Avondale MARTA Station in Decatur as part of the redevelopment of the area to a mixed use development to include residential and retail space as well as a parking deck.

Sullivan Creek Stream Restoration and Mitigation Surveys

Sullivan Creek  Sullivan Creek Survey

Street Smarts prepared topographic and boundary surveys for proposed stream restoration project along Sullivan Creek which became necessary as a result of the 5th runway construction activities at Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The project encompassed approximately 6,000 linear feet of restoration or mitigation.
