Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) Origin-Destination Data Collection and Geocoding

Data Smarts was selected by Transportation Management & Design to collect the necessary origin-destination data and perform initial geocoding of the data to support general system planning and improve transfer connections.

Data was collected using a combination of self-administered questionnaire forms, interviewer-administered questionnaire forms and a customized version of Data Smarts' origin-destination data collection application developed for use on PocketPC handheld computers.

Approximately 4000 edited records were geocoded for use in further analyses. Initial geocoding was accomplished by using Maptitude by Caliper, ArcView by ESRI, and street data from Caliper, City of Charlotte, and Mecklenburg County.
